It looks like one or two scans completed. I updated some components, and it didn't find the file updates for 2 days. I marked them all safe, and added a plugin to create and serve webp images. The malware scanner took exception to that. I marked those files, after checking, as safe, and started another scan. That one failed, with the 3 hour message to initialize data again.
I've left it alone for the time being, pending your advice.
